FAQ

Grass River Lodge Frequently Asked Questions

  • When is the best time to come fishing?

Briefly, our season is June1 to October 1. Pike fishing is very consistent throughout the year. Walleye fishing is best from late May until about the second week in September. For those who like lake trout, they are typically shallow in spring until about June 20 and can be caught on spinning gear casting just like fishing for pike. Same techniques after about the 15th of September, when they spawn. July and August we have to go down about 70-80 ft deep but July trout fishing can be excellent in deep water.

  • What are the accommodations like?

On the Main lodge at Grass River we have 12 cabins, allowing between two to eight people each. The cabins have modern washroom facilities and we provide daily housekeeping to make sure you have everything you need.

  • What do we need to bring along for Outpost Camps?

Food, fishing gear, rain gear, warm jacket for early morning and evenings, mosquito repellent, towels, dish towels, dish soap and camera. For guest flying commercially we can arrange your grocery order and have it ready when you arrive.

  • Border Crossing & Transportation:

    AIR TRAVEL:
Implemented on January 23, 2007, ALL PERSONS traveling by air between the United States and Canada are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.

    LAND AND SEA TRAVEL:
We recommend everyone to have a passport, as it will be a requirement for travel by land sometime this summer, if not earlier already. The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

    TRANSPORTATION:
Transportation has become the biggest expense of your fishing trip. The most economical way to get to our lodge is to drive up. There is nothing pretty or exciting about the drive. The roads are good but boring. Many of our guests fly up to Winnipeg, rent a vehicle and drive 6-1/2 hours later they are at the lodge. It’s a savings of about ½ compared to airline travel. Here is a rough breakdown of the cost of flying verses driving:

    • Cost of flying up to Flin Flon approx.
      $1200.00 per person
      4 people- $1200.00 X 4 = $4800.00
    • A flight to Winnpeg Approx:
      $500.00 per person X 4= $2000.00
      Vehicle rental $400.00
      Fuel $250.00 Total $2650.00 / 4 = $662.50 Per Parson
    • Bottom line is $1200.00 per person to fly up, or $662.50 to drive up. A substantial savings on travel. If you do choose to fly into Flin Flon, we’ll be happy to pick you up at the airport.
